DEACONS PAWEL SASS AND MICHAEL BRIESE ORDAINED TO THE PRIESTHOOD; CELEBRATED MASSES AT ST MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL
Archbishop Donald Wuerl was the principal celebrant and homilist at the ordination of seven new priests on Saturday, June 20 at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. Among the seven new-ordained priests were two who are very familiar to St. Michael the Archangel parishioners, having both served as deacons at the parish.
Father Pawel Sass is a native of Poland who came to Washington for his seminary studies. Until his ordination, he served as a deacon at St. Michael. He celebrated his first mass with the Neo-Catechumenal community at his seminary at midnight following his ordination. He also presided at a mass at St. Michael the Archangel later that morning and was feted by parishioners at a reception following the mass.
Father Michael Briese is a native of Silver Spring. He attended St. Bernadette parish and school and graduated from Archbishop Carroll High School. Following college, Father Briese returned to Silver Spring. He became a permanent deacon in 2004 and subsequently attended seminary in Boston. He celebrated his first mass at St. Michael the Archangel on Sunday following his ordination. The mass was followed by a reception.
