Successful Sodality Bazaar Raises Scholarship
Funds

The St. Michael the Archangel Sodality held its annual holiday bazaar on
Sunday, November 22, 2009, in the Williamsburg Room.  The bazaar is held
to benefit the Sodality’s scholarship fund, which annually provides a scholarship
to a graduating St. Michael the Archangel School student who will be attending
a Catholic secondary school.

A highlight of this year’s bazaar was the St. Michael the Archangel School display which featured the artwork of its students.  Under the direction of their art instructor, students in each of the grades created original Christmas postcards.  Orders were taken for sets of the highly unique cards and sales were brisk.  Orders are still being accepted through the school or parish.  Principal Charles Eames was present throughout most of the event and was clearly very proud of the work of his students.

New this year was the use of twelve outside vendors who displayed an amazing array of goods (handcrafted rosaries, children’s clothing, Christmas decorations, books, candles and much more).  While there is some dispute as to whether Sodality Prefect Peggy Hannah or Monsignor Tolentino came up with the idea of using the vendors, all present agreed that it worked well and will likely be repeated.

The talents of St. Michael parishioners did not go unused or unrecognized.  The monthly bake sale, held in conjunction with the bazaar, featured the culinary art of parishioners.  There appeared to be a number of parishioners who stocked up on their Thanksgiving goodies at the sale, giving thanks that they would be spared the task of preparing their own sweets.

Many thanks are due to Peggy and her fellow Sodalists for all the hard work they put into making the bazaar such a lively and successful event.  The event serves an important parish mission in its financial support of the continuing Catholic education of a graduating St. Michael School student.
