Purpose: The parish participates in the Provide-a-Meal program of S.O.M.E.’s social services program by providing one meal each month at the homeless shelter on O Street in Washington, D.C. The program provides cooked casseroles, ready to be reheated in the S.O.M.E. kitchens by volunteer staff. Each of the participating parishes has a specific day of the month for which they are responsible for providing the main meal. St. Michael’s day is the noon meal on the first Monday of each month. Casseroles are delivered on the day before.

Membership/volunteer criteria: All are welcome to help.

Volunteer opportunities:
• The Casserole Coordinator purchases tins, prepares the recipes to be used each month, provides 65 copies and makes them available in the church beginning with the 4 p.m. Saturday Mass the week before; opens the storage room to refrigerate the casseroles from the 8 and 9:30 a.m. Masses.

• The Delivery Coordinator schedules drivers to pick up the casseroles from the church and delivery them to S.O.M.E. Drivers collect casseroles turned in after the 11:30 a.m. Mass and depart for S.O.M.E. by 1 p.m. on the designated Sunday.

• Volunteers are needed to prepare the casseroles.

Meeting schedule: There are no formal meetings.
